Computer Usage Policy
Printer Friendly Version
We are very pleased to provide Internet access to computer users at Mainland High School. Our goal in providing this service is to promote educational excellence in the school by facilitating resource sharing, innovation, and communication. Access to the Internet will enable users to explore thousands of libraries, databases, and bulletin boards from around the world.
Access to computers and people around the world makes material available that may not be considered to be of educational value. Families should be warned that some material obtained via the Internet may contain items that are illegal, defamatory, inaccurate, or potentially offensive. Mainland High School has taken reasonable precautions to restrict access to controversial materials. However, it is impossible to control all materials that an industrious user may discover either accidentally or deliberately. We firmly believe that the benefit to online access for students and faculty far outweighs the possibility that users may procure material that is not consistent with the educational goals of the school.
The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that the use of computer and network resources is consistent with Mainland High School’s stated mission, goals and objectives. These guidelines are provided so that users are aware of their responsibilities. If a school user violates any of these provisions, his or her account and/or computer privileges could be terminated and future access could be denied in accordance with these rules and regulations.
Terms and Conditions
The network is provided for the purpose of research and communication.
Access is a privilege – not a right.
Users must respect all copyright and intellectual property laws that protect the rights of software owners, artists and authors.
Mainland High School makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it provides. The school assumes no responsibility or liability for any charges or damages a user may suffer. This includes loss of data resulting from delays, non-deliveries or service interruptions. Use of any information obtained via the Internet is at the user’s risk. Mainland High School specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through the school’s Internet services.
Users are responsible for good behavior on the school district network, just as they are in a classroom/school hallway. General school rules for behavior and network etiquette apply. Users are not permitted to transmit, access, receive, download, submit, or publish any defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, offensive or illegal material.
Users are not permitted to use any computing resource for commercial purposes, product advertising, political lobbying, or political campaigning. Computing and Networking General Use Policy Agreement
This policy is not intended to punish, but rather to ensure that technology can be used to benefit the Mainland High School family. Any violations to this policy may result in a referral for computer vandalism, the loss of computer and network access, suspension from school, recommendation for expulsion, restitution for repair and replacement of damaged equipment, and/or other disciplinary or legal action. In addition, the school may seek civil or criminal penalties if applicable. Users are subject to all local, state, and federal laws.
Signatures on the paper copies will be kept on file at Mainland High School for the duration of a student’s enrollment.
