Refer to the following information for the next three questions.

A cart makes four successive displacements of 3 km, 4 km, 3 km, and 1 km that are at right angles to each other as shown in the diagram.

What was the total distance travelled by the cart?

What was the magnitude of the cart's net displacement?

What is the direction of its net displacement?

Refer to the following information for the next three questions.

Given the following four vectors:

  • Vector S = (6 cm, 180º),
  • vector T = (6 cm, 210º),
  • vector U = (8 cm, 90º),
  • vector X = (2 cm, 135º).

Algebraically find the magnitude and direction of the resultant R = S - T + ½ U + 3X.
Fill out the following x|y chart and calculate your net x and net y.

Provide a sketch of R using net x and net y

Finally, calculate the magnitude of R and its directional angle
