PhysicsLAB Worksheet
Interference: In-phase Sound Sources

Printer Friendly Version
Refer to the following information for the next two questions.

Two loud speakers are in-phase and emitting the same tone. The tone has a frequency of 85 hz and the speed of sound is 340 m/sec. The distance from one speaker to a detector is distance L and the distance from the second speaker to the detector is distance L + x.

Find the first four values of x for which the detector receives constructive interference.

Find the first four values of x for which the detector receives destructive interference.

Refer to the following information for the next two questions.

Two loud speakers are in-phase and emitting the same tone. The distance from one speaker to a detector is distance 6 meters while the distance from the second speaker to the detector is distance 10 meters.

Find the first four frequencies that can be emitted by the speakers which result in the detector receiving constructive interference.

Find the first four frequencies that can be emitted by the speakers which result in the detector receiving destructive interference.

Refer to the following information for the next two questions.

Two loudspeakers are in-phase and emitting the same tone. The speakers are 16 meters apart. The tone has a frequency of 85 hz and the speed of sound is 340 m/sec.

On the line drawn between the two sources, label the points where a detector would hear constructive interference; that is, LOUD sound.

On the line drawn between the two sources, label the points where a detector would hear destructive interference, that is, MINIMAL to NO sound.
